Are you waiting for permission?
Permission is a fascinating topic…and it’s one that keeps cropping up in discussions lately.
Often, we feel like we cannot move forward with something because we’re waiting for permission from someone or something.
I’m calling it permission, but you might resonate more with terms such as validation or approval.
This permission can come from a whole plethora of sources including your boss, your partner, your friends, your family members, your clients. Maybe even your children!
You could be awaiting permission from any number of stakeholders in fact. And often without even realising it. It’s just a habit or a pattern that you’ve fallen into.
Not giving ourselves permission
Don’t worry, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too.
But we often forget that WE are an important stakeholder too.
Yes, you and I!
And our feelings and opinions also count and need consideration. We’ve just lost sight of this somehow.
This is a conundrum.
Often, the problem is that we are not giving ourselves permission. Sometimes consciously, and sometimes completely unconsciously.
This can be a challenging one to get our heads around.
But this is often the key that we need to unlock the chains that could be holding us back. Those constraints and challenges that may be keeping us limited and stuck.
The way forward
We’ve recently started a new month and a new quarter. A fresh new chapter.
My challenge for you is to take a good look at where you might be feeling limited or constrained.
– How could you give yourself more importance in your stakeholder hierarchy?
– How could you give yourself a little more permission to free yourself up and live your best life?
It’s your life after all – it’s about time to give yourself permission and take control of it. This could be work related or it could be in other aspects of your life. The great news is, you get to choose!
