My mind had wandered off elsewhere…to Life Beyond….
I sat at my desk. I sat in meetings. I was there in body (and sometimes voice).
But I wasn’t really there. I was on autopilot. I was going through the motions. Pretending to feel engaged with the work and the people.
Yet my mind was somewhere completely different. Far from the here and now.
It’s weird, I’d never been much of a daydreamer before. I’d always been very engaged and very present. And here I was, hardly here at all.
I was thinking about Life Beyond.
I was trying to imagine what Life Beyond employment could possibly look like. Trying to imagine a Life Beyond accounting and finance.
And whether there could be something else out there for me…something that would allow me to find much greater fulfilment and quality of life, yet still providing financial support to maintain the lifestyle that we’d become accustomed to.
Initially I tried to stifle these thoughts. Banish them. Bury them.
This wasn’t how I operated. I was always engaged at work.
But once the seed was planted in my mind and the ideas and possibilities began to sprout, then that was it.
It went from possibility to probability. No more “What if…?”, but “How can I do this?”
My mind was now so active that I could get no rest. Not until I discovered my way forward, out into Life Beyond.
But I didn’t walk the walk alone. Thank goodness. I’m not sure I would have made it on my own. Maybe I’d still be struggling to work it out.
My journey began through working with a coach to help me find my true path. And the rest, as they say, is history.
